  1. I would love to go camping with my kids…if someone else would plan & pack for me! Alas, hubs isn’t a camper (or a packer, for that matter). I think I’m gonna try a camping overnight through the local YMCA this summer. Hey – baby steps!

    Thanks for the tips!

    1. Camping at the Y won’t require a lot of this- but it will be good practice! You’re welcome to visit us here in the Midwest for a weekend of roughing it!

  4. 🙂 awesome tips! I’ve been a camper my whole life and these are excellent tips! The only thing I would add is it is a must to bring tongs and marshmallow sticks for cooking SMORES!!

  6. These are some great tips. I would add to #4 Food, Prep your meals as much as possible BEFORE you even leave the house. All the chopping, measuring, etc. is much easier to do at home. Then just put in zip lock bags. If you’ve got raw meat (and are staying longer than a night) it helps to freeze it, marinades and all, in a zip lock laid flat in the freezer. Helps keep your cooler cold with less ice, and usually defrosts by night 2.

  7. Excellent tips!  If you have any ideas for keeping the bugs away too, I’d love to hear them 🙂  Thanks for linking up at Discover & Explore!

    1. We cook with a Dutch Oven and love it!! You do have to wash it out – no soap, just water. They sell parchment liners that make clean-up easy.

      1. Yep, you never use soap in cast iron. We don’t use liners, either. Doug just ‘cooks stuff out’ with boiling water and a good scrubbing before seasoning again with oil over the fire.

  8. I agree with long pants for hiking, however if you have lighter weight ones which dry quickly they are better than jeans which take a long time to dry.
