Always Planning the Next Adventure

Last Updated on July 10, 2014 by Jody Halsted

Doug and I were relaxing outside the RV on the 4th of July when I casually mentioned that I had applied for a spot at a travel conference taking place in November.

Since the conference is in Carlsbad, California, I was thinking it would be a great time to drive Route 66. In the RV.

My thought process : the deserts won't be too hot…  it's just before Thanksgiving so Doug could likely join us for at least part of the trip… I could probably sneak in a trip to Disneyland, as a surprise for the girls (who have yet to visit either Disney).

So Doug, supportive guy that he is (seriously, I am so lucky!), grabbed the atlas to check out the route.

How far in advance do you begin planning your travel adventures?

  1. That’s so cool! We are the same way, although we typically always tend to leave the actual travel booking to the last minute and ruin our great plans by not booking early enough and getting the reservations needed done. And we were just talking how we miss road trips in the USA, when you don’t have to make reservations!!

  2. I also think it will be a beautiful ride. I try to plan far ahead and we often have the destination set, but the reservations still happen in the last minute when we can be sure about the dates…

  3. Sounds like a great plan!

Now that I’m back in Western Australia and have a kid then travel planning is a long drawn-out thing (because everything is FAR away) but I don’t mind – planning is half the fun – when I lived in Europe and Asia though there was a lot of spontaneous trips and I enjoyed that too. (I guess it doesn’t matter how I plan it: I just love to travel!)

  4. Ha, you sound like me. I am always cooking up something and my hubby just goes with it. I turn every “work” trip into a family vacation. A chance to travel for any of us is a chance to travel for ALL of us!
