If the Highway Were Your Front Yard, Where Would You Go? #IGTravelThursday

Last Updated on September 2, 2015 by Jody Halsted

It may have been the incredible cabin fever that sent us rushing to the Camping & RV Show last weekend. Or maybe it was the fact that our weekend getaway to Kansas City had been canceled due to the insanely frigid temperatures that have held the Midwest in a virtual deep freeze for the past two months.

Whatever the reason, we were more than ready to think about warmer temperatures and being outdoors.

RV bonus: Working on the road
We learned quite a bit about RVing during our first trip – especially how much we wanted an RV!

Ever since we rented an RV in 2012 we have been dreaming about owning our own. But RVs aren't cheap and we had other priorities that needed to be taken care of first (like paying off debt and saving money!)

So we bought a starter camper. And used it a lot last year. The girls and I even set off on our own week-long adventure!

But even with our camper, we still dreamed of owning a RV. A trifecta of perfect circumstances would be necessary, though.

Perfect RV.

Perfect price.

Perfect time.

And last weekend the trifecta happened. We were actually looking to upgrade our camper. Maybe something a bit larger with slide-outs instead of pop-outs. And we found one that we liked, quite a lot. It was near the top of our tow weight, so we decided to discuss it as we looked around a bit more.

We didn't expect to find our perfect RV.

The perfect RV

So, what makes this the perfect RV? Let me show you:

The perfect RV

In addition to the lay-down couch and dinette, and the overhead bunk, there are also bunk beds near the rear of the RV. As well as a queen size bed at the back.

Big refrigerator, lots of storage space. An oven in the kitchen! And a really nice bathroom.

Though it is new, the RV is 3 years old – which brings the price down quite nicely.

And though it wasn't what we planned on when we went to the RV Show, it was what we decided on.

If this all comes to fruition we have decided on a trip to Glacier National Park this summer. And I made a promise to the girls a couple years ago that, when we got an RV, we would go to Walt Disney World and camp at Fort Wilderness.

Where would you go if the highway was your front yard?

  3. Jody, Congratulations and what a fabulous post.  You are going to have so much fun.  My  neighbors have one, and I have never been inside it.  Your RV looks fabulous inside. I think road trips are divine, and you’re going to have so much fun seeing the USA.

  4. Hmmm. Those RVs are pretty flash!! Especially compared to the van we’ve been using for our family travels…. 🙂 Right now we’re exploring the roads for New Zealand and I can’t wait to head to the west coast here on the North Island. And congrats on the new camper, can’t wait to hear about your adventures!
