Treehouse Glamping at The Mohicans in Ohio

Most of our roads trips involve our RV – and it takes someplace really special to convince me to leave my comfortable king size bed, relaxing lounge chair, and loyal furry companion.
The Mohicans Treehouse Resort and Wedding Venue near Logan, Ohio is definitely a very special place; one I happily exchanged my RV for and where my pup was also welcomed!
We would like to thank The Mohicans for hosting us as we passed through Ohio.

Glamping in The Mohicans Treehouse Village
The first thing you notice as you make your way to The Mohicans is that it is truly a place to ‘get away from it all’. The Mohicans is not someplace you ‘stumble upon’ during a drive in the country; to find your spot in this private 77 acre woodland you need to be searching for it.
And even with the thorough directions you are given as part of your welcome emails you will likely believe you are lost. Only the simple wooden signs at the end of the lane to your accommodation let you know you have arrived.
Now, I don’t recommend driving an RV down this road.
It can be done (hats off to my husband because I couldn’t have done it!) and we were able to park in the large lot at the wedding venue and drive our tow vehicle (no, we did NOT tow down this road! I arrived early and scouted it for unexpected surprises) to our treehouse but, in retrospect, we should have reserved a spot at one of the many campgrounds a few miles away and left the RV there.
In fact, The Mohicans recommends four-wheel or all-wheel drive whenever possible- but especially during the winter – as the roads are curvy and steep. The roads are bumpy and after a heavy rain they can be slippery and muddy, so do come prepared.
Glamping with a View
I may have squealed a tiny bit and clapped my hands like an excited 5 year old when I caught the first glimpse of our treehouse, aptly named ‘The View’.
Nestled into tall trees, newly sprouted leaves a vivid green, it was the treehouse of childhood dreams, but upgraded.
Eagerly climbing the steps (ahem, watch the walkway when you reach the top), I couldn’t wait to enter this private sanctuary that seemed to be promising me a relaxing stay.
The View is a tiny house in the trees. But it doesn’t feel at all small, thanks to the large windows and abundant light.
Upon entry you notice the natural edge dining bar with views over the firepit.
Directly behind is a compact galley kitchen. Outfitted with a dual burner stove, a convection toaster oven, mini fridge, and coffee pot – as well as pots, pans, plates, bowls, and basic implements – you’ll find everything you need to create simple meals.
A grill is available on the deck – and you can always utilize your campfire for cooking. You’ll find grilling tools in the kitchen, as well.
Climb the ladder next to the kitchen to reach the loft bedroom. You’ll find two very comfortable beds up here, as well as a few windows, which keep it from feeling enclosed and cramped.
A wee bathroom is tucked just behind the ladder. While you probably won’t fit two people in here at once – unless one is standing in the shower – you’ll find it has plenty of space to take care of necessities.
If you like a roomy shower be sure to check out the outdoor shower on the back deck. It wasn’t quite warm enough for me to use this during our visit – but I definitely considered it!
The star of this idyllic accommodation is the sitting room. Surrounded by floor to ceiling windows it feels like you are sitting outside – even when you’re tucked in a fluffy blanket on the comfy couch.
The extra large deck wraps around two sides of the treehouse, expanding your living quarters and offering the perfect spot for morning coffee or an evening cocktail (again, wrapped in one of the fluffy blankets you’ll find in a basket in the sitting room).
Booking a Mohicans Treehouse
As you can probably guess, the treehouses at The Mohicans are a popular getaway.
Book online, as far in advance as possible. The booking engine on the website shows availability so use that to begin your search. Just know that availability doesn’t always equal treehouse as there are other properties available, as well.

Prices vary depending on the treehouse you choose, but begin at $374 per night.
Pet Policy at The Mohincans
We loved that Finley was welcomed to join us for our stay. She loved it!
If you want to bring your own furry pal know that you will pay a pet deposit (varies depending on size of pet) and your dog must be leashed at all times.
Pets can not be left alone on the property for extended periods and you must clean up after your animal.
What to Pack for Your Stay in a Luxury Treehouse
As you pack remember that you will be carrying your gear up stairs – and possibly down a bit of trail. So pack light and just bring the necessities. I really like Thirty-one large utility totes for these kinds of trips. (See packing tips in this post!)
You’ll find quite a bit is provided – including bedding and towels- so you don’t need too many extras!
Beyond your clothing and personal toiletries you may want these items
- Eye mask (for sleeping in)
- Extra towels – if you plan to enjoy water activities
- Slippers or woolen socks
- Flashlight or headlamp
- If you plan to cook don’t forget to pack spices
- Plastic containers, baggies, or aluminum foil for leftovers
- Paper towels or napkins
- If you have frozen items bring a cooler with plenty of ice (or dry ice)
- Don’t forget pet items – including a comfy place for them to sleep
Activities near The Mohicans Treehouse Resort
If you aren’t attending a wedding at The Mohicans – and you can be tempted to leave your magical abode, you’ll find quite a few fun activities nearby.
But before you hop in your vehicle I highly recommend a walk along the wooded trails that wind through the property. Not only is it beautiful, but you can glimpse the other treehouses. (Just remember to stay back and don’t intrude on other guests!)
Picnic & Afternoon Hike in Mohicans State Park
It’s a quick 15 minutes from your treehouse at The Mohicans to Mohicans State Park. The park offers beautiful scenery whether you enjoy a drive or a hike.
After grabbing picnic treats we found the perfect spot for our meal near the covered bridge that spans the Mohican State Scenic River.
Fully fueled, we set out on the 2 mile Lyons Falls Trail, a moderately challenging loop that includes 2 waterfalls and a steep set of steps.
Other than a bit of boardwalk at the beginning/ end and the steps out of the gorge, the trail is well worn, though narrow and rutted in places, with plenty of gnarly tree roots- so watch your step.
Tip: If you want to go down into the gorge instead of climbing out of the gorge follow the fork to the little falls first, then continue to the big falls from there.
This is a terrific afternoon hike – not too long, not too difficult, and plenty of beauty!
Shopping in Nearby Villages
You’re in Ohio’s Amish Country and the surrounding villages offer an abundance of delicious, locally made produce as well as artisan shops and charming boutiques.
We bought food to stock the treehouse at Village Point Market in Hayesville. This charming mercantile carries an abundance of local foods, wines, and beers, as well as specialty items. You’ll also find some fun gifts and a deli (for your park picnic).
Stela’s Ice Cream Shoppe in Loudonville is the perfect place for an after-hike treat.
Just across the street, The Alabaster Mouse has a little bit of everything. Home decor, specialty roasted coffee, local artisan crafts, tartan blankets, and other fun items sourced by owner Marie White.
The Mohican Country Market, also in Loudonville, has a café, deli, and grocery specializing in local produce and bulk items.
More shopping near The Mohicans
Just down the road from The Mohicans is Treefrog Canopy Tours, which claims to be Ohio’s longest, fastest, and highest zipline tour.
A treehouse getaway at The Mohicans is perfect for a special event – or just to spoil yourself and disconnect for a few days. (Did I mention there is little to no cellular reception?) It’s an ideal place to recharge and relax.
